Reflecting on Our Use of God's Name

Speaking God's name instantly brings to mind all we think about God. But more than what we know or think, how we use that name reveals what we truly believe about God's character.

If this is true, it's likely that we need to spend time in repentance about how little we think of God's character based on how loosely we use God's name. God's name is not to be used in a profane way, and neither is it to be used to maliciously influence others or justify our actions and decisions by declaring that God has willed what we are doing or have done.

Today, let's reflect on our past actions and words, and seek forgiveness where we have misused God's holy name.

Bible Verse

1 Peter 1:16 - 'Since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”'

Reflection Question

In what ways have you used God's name in vain? How can you change your behavior to honor His holiness?

Prayer

Father, I repent for the times I have used Your name carelessly. Forgive me and help me to always honor Your name in my words and actions. Amen.
