The Discipline of Dependence

Devotional

Prayer is a discipline of dependence. It is a practice that signifies our need for God in every aspect of our lives. Even Jesus, who was sinless, prayed to carry out God's will. This shows us that prayer is not just a ritual but a vital connection to our Heavenly Father. When we pray, we acknowledge that we cannot do life on our own and that we need God's guidance and strength. How's your prayer life? Is prayer so integrated in your life that though you stumble and though you need God's mercies renewed every day?

Bible

One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, 'Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.' He said to them, 'When you pray, say: Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation.' - Luke 11:1-4

Reflection Question

How can you make prayer a more integral part of your daily routine to express your dependence on God?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to see prayer as a vital discipline in my life. Teach me to depend on You in every situation and to seek Your will through prayer. Amen.
