Understanding the Holiness of God's Name

To hallow something means to treat it with reverence. It means to acknowledge it as something altogether different from what is mundane or usual or typical. God's name is holy because God Himself is holy.

When someone's name is mentioned in our presence, all that we know about and think about that person is brought to mind instantly. So it's also true that speaking God's name instantly brings to mind all we think about God. But more than what we know or think, how we use that name reveals what we truly believe about God's character.

Today, let's start by reflecting on the holiness of God's name and what it means to us personally.

Bible Verse

Exodus 20:7 - 'You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.'

Reflection Question

How do you currently use God's name in your daily life? What does that reveal about your view of His character?

Prayer

Lord, help me to understand the depth of Your holiness. Teach me to revere Your name and to honor You in all that I say and do. Amen.
